A geometric sans-serif typeface, marking the launch of type foundry TIGHTYPE

Moderat is a geometric sans-serif typeface family, designed in 2015 together with Fabian Fohrer. The project also marked the founding of Tightype, the type foundry we established and ran together until 2020.
What began as a typeface for a lecture series we organised at our university grew into something considerably larger: licensed by brands, organisations, and institutions across industries, and shipped in numerous custom variants for clients around the world.
Its low stroke contrast, closed apertures, and angular details define its distinctive character. With an enhanced set of OpenType features and stylistic alternates, Moderat is available in three widths and nine weights with corresponding italics.
In 2019, the complete family was revised and extended by Fabian Fohrer with Léon Hugues, Jovana Jocic, Vassilis Georgiou, and Lucile Billot — expanding the collection to include Mono, Rounded, and Serif variants.
